A Guide to Accommodation, Activities, Restaurants and Businesses in Brits, South Africa
Founded on a farm in 1924, Brits is situated in the Bojanala region of the North West, and is a large town in a fertile area of which the soils are irrigated by Hartbeespoort Dam. Brits is located in the middle of a successful grain-producing area as well as it playing an important role in the South African mining industry.
Approximately 94% of South Africa’s platinum comes from Brits and Rustenburg, as well as there being a large vanadium mine in the area. Do not let the idea of the mines concern visitors, the town is beautifully surrounded by citrus groves filling the air with their glorious scent.
Brits is most popular for its proximity to Hartbeespoort Dam, providing endless seasonal activities to visitors. There is much to see and do whilst visiting Brits to keep the whole family entertained.
Some of the things to do and see in Brits are as follows:
- De Wildt Cheetah Research Center
- Granite Works - some of the world's largest diamond saws on view
- Rainbow Cultural Village - tours of San Bushman, Ndebele and Afrikaner villages
- Vaalkop Dam Nature Reserve - ideal for bird watchers
- Hartbeespoort Boat Cruises
- Hot air balloon rides
- Ukutula Lion Lodge
- Brits Flying Club
As a tourist hub, there are many interesting and unique places to eat, have a coffee or just relax and take in the scenery. Businesses are mostly directed at tourism in and around Hartbeespoort Dam, however the town provides a well-rounded infrastructure which caters to all requirements.
